New Shop Image

So today I have been working on my shop on Etsy.  I have added a new banner as well a bit of information about why I started up my Etsy store.

I have also been developing some new items, which just need to photographed before they are added, but there is still plenty of other items already up there to browse until they arrive.

London, dear London

So earlier this week I was in London with my husband.  I love visiting London, the hustle and bustle and the art.  The art in museums, as you walk around sculptures in the streets and walkways.  So as we were walking over the Thames, heading to the Southbank I spotted these guys....

Sometimes a swift look up has wonderful rewards.

We also found this at the centre, fabric and yarn on an immense scale.

This tree of fabric covered pipes and leaves of yarn.

There were other delights, such as this which seemed to me as a cross between a hobbit hole and an insects house (or at least how I imagine an insects house to be).

Safari Northampton

So I was recently wondering around Northampton and it seemed ever so slightly empty as the animals have gone.  Over the summer Northampton had a Safari, throughout the town there were giraffes, gorillas, rhinos, elephants, lions and (my favourite) hippos.  The animals were dotted around the town centre.  The larger animals had been created by artists, while the smaller ones were decorated by local schools.

There was also a very special hippo which was just a blackboard surface which had small pots of chalk so whoever walked by could just draw or write on it.  I loved that everytime you walked by it would be different.

However the animals from this years safari have gone,  as the lions from two years ago did.  At least they have gone for a good cause or three as they are currently being auctionned off.  Maybe one or two may return like this lion (and two others) did from 2010...

...personally I would quite like the blackboard hippo to return, with this guy watching over him...

Street Art in Bedford

I adore street art whether it be guerrilla knitting or this guy (Yes an American Friend showed me this )

A short while ago I was in Bedford to to see the Reduced Shakespeare Company and I came across these guys:

I suspect they look even better when it is truly dark and the lighting underneath.  What I also liked about these guys is the work on the reverse of the faces are intricately decorated with flowers

I just loved this piece of work and that it is permanently on display for anyone to see at any time for free.

I'm Back..

..and I have a few updates.  If you use the links on mini-Etsy to the side you will see new items, including three more bottle covers.  I do love these covers, I have one myself and use it constantly.  Below is a picture of the cover I use, it also shows the top I have been making for myself.  This was made using a pattern I obtained from Ravelry called the Bell Sleeve Pullover (link to pattern (Ravelry Log In Needed))

(excuse the photo quality it is still something I am working on)

I have  also made a tweek to my etsy shop, I now have a lovely banner....go have a look My Etsy Shop Home Page

A Project Old and Products New

So it's been a while since my last post, but I been busy crafting...

Firstly I have finished my blanket from a yarn block swap. In December 2009, one of the forum members suggested a yarn block swap, initially I wasn't going to participate.  Four blocks a month while working full time, was going to be difficult.  However in February 2010, one of the participants dropped out and I jumped in.  So over 2010 I got my four squares out and received some back.  They sat around for a long while, until this last month and I finally got them sewn together and here is the final piece:

I know the photo isn't that great but the blanket is large enough for 2 to curl up under.

I have also been creating new items, for my Etsy Store, they are all room signs, some in a crochet frame others have a wire hanger.  I will be posting these over a period of time but here is a sneak preview of them:

So it has been awhile since I have blogged, but I here I am again...

well first thing is my cushion is finished and is now safely on my sofa and is wonderfully comfortable...here are the pics of the front and back of my very plump cushion

So I still need to sew up the blanket I mentioned before but I will and I will post the piccies

On another note, I have been thinking about all the places I have knitted and crocheted...gigs, concerts, rugby matches.  I have had a few photos of me knitting in these places, but nothing that really shows where I was knitting.  So I will endeavour to get more in the future and blog about it.

New and Existing Crafty Projects

So I added a new Needle Book and Pin Cushion Set to my Etsy shop, it is on a lovely sage green aida with black, red and green circles cross stitched onto it.  I really did enjoy making this one and it almost didn't make it to the shop, as I nearly kept it for myself.  The listing for this piece is here.

I also thought I would share some of my personal crafty projects I am working on, one is a knitted and crocheted cushion.  I have complete the crocheted side, and I am working on the knitted side...below are the photos...

The detailed photos show the colours the best, however the cushion will be huge but very comfy.

My other main personal project is a blanket that is made up of squares either I have made myself or that I was given as part of a yarn block swap in 2010.  I am planning to stitch these together next weekend and then I will post pictures, but as a taster here are a couple of the blocks...

There are several blogs which I avidly read and adore....one of these is The Complete Guide to Imperfect Homemaking.  I wanted to mention this blog as they are currently running a series on "tips for blogging" which I have found really useful and the timing of me starting blogging and reading this series is perfect.  So thank you

So today I opened my new Etsy Shop, see it here The Crafty Hippo on Etsy

I have a few items listed and will be busily designing and making more items for sale.

I really like my plastic bottle covers...I always carry a bottle of water with me, but the plastic looks so ugly so I designed and made a fabric cover for the bottle I carry.  Mine is a lovely purple fabric with some pretty purple beads

The photo does not show the shimmer that the fabric with a turquoise underthread.  I have been using this for many weeks and I love it.  The clip is useful, if I just want to attach it to my bag, and at the gym as I just clip it to the cross trainer (the bottle holder is in a really bad position)

As I find it so useful and so much prettier than the plastic I decided to make some more to sell...only a couple at the moment, but more one their way with all different decorations.

More blogging to follow...
